This 4-day tour to Manu begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at 5 am. Then you will head for 1 hour and 45 minutes to Ninamarca, a small pre-Inca archaeological site. Here the guide will give you an explanation about the place and show you interesting aspects of the Andes, before entering the Amazon. 20 minutes later you will arrive at the town of Paucartambo where you will have breakfast and visit its small main square, which is full of sculptures of dancers since this is one of the towns with the most fervent festivities in honor of the Virgin Carmen.
Then you will head for 40 more minutes to the highest point of the tour. This point is called Tres Cruces de Oro and has one of the most beautiful sunrises on the planet. At this point you will stop to observe the beginning of the Amazon rainforest from the deer trail lookout and you will officially register to enter the park and explore the Manu tour.
Afterwards you will descend for about 30 minutes to a specific place on the road, from where you will take a walking tour and observe birds such as the Andean Quetzal, the cock-of-the-rock, the watchmaker, eagles, monkeys and perhaps a spectacled bear. During this entire tour, the guide will show you the birds with binoculars and a telescope, in addition to explaining the behavior of each bird you can observe. After this tour of approximately 2 hours, you will have a picnic lunch at a place called Rocotal.
After lunch you will continue descending taking short walks to observe more birds in the high jungle area of the Manu tour. Around 5 pm you will arrive at the first lodge of the tour. Your guide will show you to your rooms and after a well-deserved rest and shower, your cook will prepare a happy hour and buffet dinner.
** This first day of the Manu tour will be primarily bird watching along the way.
You will be woken up by your tour guide at 5 am in the morning in order to explore the Manu jungle tour. You guide will offer you an organic coffee to you wake up in a better way. Once you are ready your cook will serve you a yummy buffet breakfast. You will be driven for 45 minutes to a place called Inkamazonia, where you will be able to spot with your guide more than 10 species of Manu tour hummingbirds in only 20 minutes, you can also see in that place tanagers, toucans, the king vulture, tarantulas and emerald boa.
Then you will continue 30 minutes to the Atalaya port to navigate for 20 minutes the Alto Madre de Dios River in order to go the lodge. Then you will ride the boat for 30 minutes to go to the oxbow lake Machuwasi where you will hike to watch capybaras, alligators, hoatzins and Camungos (Anhima cornuta). After exploring this Manu Lake, you will come back to the lodge to have a well-deserved buffet lunch.
After some rest, in the afternoon you will go to explore the jungle of the Ceiba, this jungle will give you the chance to spots some birds like the Paujil (Crax globulosa), and and see a huge 400-year-old ceiba tree; these trees are known as the giants from the Amazon Forest, because they can reach up to 60 meters. Exploring this jungle your guide will also talk and explain you about the amazing Manu jungle biosphere and the importance of these forest for the entire planet.
To end your second day exploring the Manu tour, your cook will prepare a delicious happy hour and a buffet dinner. To do some digestion you will do a 45 minutes hike at night to spot some snakes, frogs and tarantulas.

To start the Manu Amazon trip, you will be woken up by your guide very early so you will have the chance to observe a colorful spectacle. You will be on the motor boat for 30 minutes until you arrive to the parrot clay lick. This salty cliff receives tens of parrots every day, of course as parrots gather there to eat salt their predators like eagles will be close. You will come back to the lodge to have a delicious breakfast.
After some rest, the chef will teach you how to cook a very typical dish from the Peruvian Amazon. The chef may teach you to prepare a Pacamoto, Juane, Tacacho, Palmito, Chapu and many other things. In the afternoon you will go to explore a primary forest canopy in order to spot monkeys, mammals and colorful birds.

After a delicious breakfast you will pack and get ready to make your way back to Cusco. You will navigate for 15 minutes from the lodge to the port of Atalaya from where you will take a car back to Cusco. Along the way you will have breakfast in a nice please where you can post some hummingbird. You will arrive to Cusco by 6 pm.

Arriving to Cusco
The airport in Cusco at the present time is only for domestic flights; so all international travelers by plane must disembark in Lima and go through Customs. Even if your flight to Cusco is the same day by the same airline carrier. You must grab your bags in Lima; and then check them back in.
The best way to arrive to Cusco is by air; and there are several options in airlines. LATAM tends to be the most expensive, but has the most options and flights.
Expect delays or flight cancellations; due to the high altitude of the andes, it tends to be difficult to land, and any weather inconvenience will stop air traffic.
Bus travel is always available and while the trip can be long; especially from Lima. The buses company such as: Cruz del Sur or Oltursa; are very well maintained and comfortable. This option is strongly encouraged if coming from a city closer to Cusco, like: Arequipa or Puno.
Luggage Storage
Any extra luggage you have with you, can be left safely in Cusco at either your hotel; or with us, at the Incas Path deposit. We will grab the extra luggage from you the morning of your tour; and return once you are back in Cusco.
Make sure your suitcase have some kind of identification on them; so they are easy to locate.
Weather
Of course weather is unpredictable. Typically the dry season in the Manu National Park, is from April through October; but this does not stop rain, from falling in June or the sun from coming out in December. Just be prepared; no matter what month you are doing the Manu Amazon Trip; please make sure that you have rain gear, that includes a waterproof jacket, pants and plastic ponchos.

What animal could infect you in the jungle?
Well, mosquitoes are the bearers of the fearsome diseases; causing deaths on the planet. We are talking about insect bites infected with: Malaria, Yellow Fever and even Dengue.
It is probably, the most dangerous animal in the Amazon rainforest; even more than piranhas, anacondas or fierce jaguars.
Without vaccination, even the bite of an infected mosquito; could ruin your vacation.
What do the authorities tell us about getting vaccinated?
According to the website of the Ministry of Health of Peru (MINSA). The risks of contracting Malaria, is latent in many areas of Peru. With the exception of the departments of: Arequipa, Moquegua, Puno, Tacna, Lima and in its surroundings; nor in the high tourist areas like: Cusco, Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca. Likewise, Puerto Maldonado and the Manu National Park and other endemic geographical areas of Peru; are mentioned as a risk zone.
If you travel to the Peruvian jungle, it is better to consult the doctor who keeps your health history; at least 4 weeks before, making the trip. So that the doctor explains you, about the type of vaccine that you should apply; and how long does it take to take effect on the body.
In the case of the Peruvian Ministry of Health; the Yellow Fever vaccine and Malaria prophylaxis: in risk areas is recommended.
On the other hand, on the website of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States (or CDC). It recommends to travelers that they will visit Peru; some important vaccines depending on particular cases.
For example, considering the type of tourism to be made; travel time or direct contact with animals or people: due to visits for study or scientific purposes.
