The Cañón del Colca (Colca Canyon) is a spectacular canyon located in southern Peru, in the Arequipa region. It is one of the deepest canyons in the world, with a depth of over 3,400 meters (11,155 feet), making it more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon.
The Colca Canyon is a major tourist attraction, famous for its breathtaking landscapes, traditional villages, and cultural heritage. The area is home to the Andean condor, one of the largest flying birds, which can be seen soaring over the canyon in certain areas, particularly at the Cruz del Condor viewpoint.
Visitors to the canyon can explore its natural beauty, enjoy hiking trails, visit hot springs, and experience local culture in the nearby towns, such as Chivay. The region is also known for its agricultural terraces, which have been used by local communities for centuries.
The Colca Canyon tour offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers, adventure enthusiasts, and those interested in Peru’s rich cultural history.
We begin our journey very early, at 3:00 am, to head to Chivay, where we will enjoy a nutritious and typical breakfast of the Colca region, and then we will begin a journey where we will appreciate wonderful landscapes, pre-Inca terraces, as well as the native flora and fauna, until we reach the Cruz del Cóndor to observe the majesty of the Colca Canyon from a strategic point, as well as the flight of the Andean condor (Vultur gryphus). There are very lucky days when you can see around 15 condors, including young, females and adults.
On the way back, we will stop at the Huayra Punko viewpoint, in Pinchollo, and then at the Antahuilque viewpoint, in order to observe some pre-Inca models and hanging tombs. The next stop will be in Maca, a small and picturesque town in the region, where we will taste the traditional drink of the Colca Canyon, a Sour made from Sancayo, the fruit of a cactus from this region.
We will have the opportunity to bathe in the thermal medicinal waters of Chivay. After that, we will enjoy a buffet lunch. Before returning to Arequipa, we will finish our trip through the Colca Valley with a stop at the impressive viewpoint of the volcanoes, the highest part of our tour and we will make another stop at the Tocra wetlands, where we will see camelids and birds such as Andean ducks and flamingos.
Finally! We will make a stop in Patahuasi, to enjoy a panoramic view in front of the Misti, Chachani with stone forests and curious rock formations, then return to Arequipa where we will leave you at your hotel or initial pick-up point.
