Lake Titicaca tour 2-day

The 2-day tour on Lake Titicaca is the best option if you have the necessary time. This tour will allow you to visit the artificial and floating island of the Uros and the natural islands of Taquile and Amantani, which maintain their pre-Columbian traditions and customs. Titicaca is the highest and most navigable lake in the world, this Natural Heritage of Peru is located in the Puno region and is shared with the neighboring country of Bolivia.

The first place to visit is the Uros island, who are an indigenous people located in the bay of Puno, whose majority population has settled for centuries on huge totora rafts called «floating islands», which navigate the waters of Lake Titicaca; and whose language belongs to the Uru-Chipaya linguistic family.

The second place to visit is the Taquile Island, which is home to a population of just over 2,000 people, descendants of an ancestral community that, to this day, preserves many of its ancient customs. Its inhabitants are Quechua speakers and their lifestyle has changed little or not at all over the years.

The third island to visit is Amantani, where its inhabitants grow potatoes, corn, oca, quinoa, beans and peas. Among its natural attractions are two viewing points to appreciate Lake Titicaca in all its extension and some pre-Hispanic remains, as well as the ceremonial centers of Pachatata and Pachamama.

The first stop we will make will be at the floating islands of the Uros, our visit will begin with the recognition of each island, and we will learn how they built these islands on the highest navigable lake in the world only with reeds, also our guide will come to explain the importance of these islands, our visit will be at most 1 hour.

Then we will go to the island of Amantani, it will take at most 2 hours and 30 minutes of navigation. During this tour we will be able to observe a great variety of scenic beauty, as well as the mountain chain (the Andes Mountain range). In the main port of Amantani, the inhabitants of the community will welcome us, and will begin to divide us into groups so that the families are responsible for giving them all the attention, accommodation, food and company. During the afternoon you will have the option to go for a walk to one of the sacred mountains known as (Pachatata), this walk will begin in coordination with our guide.

Amantani is also known for the kindness of its people and for being the natural home of the Cantuta flower, inhabited by eight communities that are dedicated to farming on terraces, raising sheep and the artisanal production of textiles and stone carvings. You will spend the night in a local house of the Amantani inhabitants.

Day 2: Amantani – Taquile – Puno.

After our typical breakfast we will continue with our tour in Puno. We will visit the island of Taquile, the navigation will take 1 hour of travel, most of the people of Taquile are very cooperative and well organized. It is the reason that the Taquileños have demonstrated their high degree of advancement in textiles, receiving an award from UNESCO. It is worth noting that spinning and weaving are done mainly by men, starting at the age of eight.

Life in Taquile is still largely unchanged by modernity. The tour in Taquile will be 2 hours and then we will have 1 hour to taste a delicious typical lunch and also to see some of their art. After our visit to Taquile we will be driven for 2 hours to Puno, where we will arrive around 5:30 pm.
