Summary
What was the cause of this fire on the Inca trail?
According to SERNAMP reports, the most likely cause of the fire in this sector of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was due to the bad practices of burning small portions of territory to plant crops. This practice called «Roza» is carried out to obtain nutrients by burning biomass and also to prevent pests and weeds from growing again quickly.
How many days will the Inca trail be closed?
As detailed by the Cusco Ministry of Culture, this provision, which will be in effect for three days starting on October 18, is intended to maintain the well-being of tourists, residents of the area and anyone who intends to walk along this pre-Hispanic Inca path.
Thus, it was indicated that the fire on the Inca Trail has been moving through the sectors of Tunasmoqo, Unumaqchi, Wanomachay, Chaquilambras, Cruzmoqo, Chaquimayo and Hatunchaca; affecting a total of 2 km of Inca trail.
